Permanent Full Time Position, National Office, Wellington

NZEI Te Riu Roa is the dynamic and innovative organisation representing the professional and industrial interests of over 48,000 primary and early childhood teachers, specialist education and advisory staff, and early childhood and school support staff.  We are committed to high quality public education, to the application of the Treaty of Waitangi and to maximising the contribution our union and educators can make to a decent society for all New Zealanders.

The overall purpose of this position is to support the operations of NZEI Te Riu Roa through the effective management and development of the Institute’s IT infrastructure.

Specific Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities will include:
• The ongoing maintenance and further development of the NZEI Te Riu Roa Membership, Group Assurance and Leave Management systems.
• Support for the operations and specific organising campaigns of NZEI Te Riu Roa through reporting information from the Membership System.
• The provision of second level support to users of desktop applications such as Microsoft Office and Groupwise.
• Assistance with the system administration of the Institute’s Novell, Linux and Windows servers and associated applications.  This will include disk space management, monitoring back-ups and anti-virus systems, through to low level problem diagnosis.
• The management of upgrades and the roll-out of new PCs or applications.

The successful applicant will have technical knowledge and experience with mySql or SQL Server, Windows XP, Microsoft Office particularly Access and including VBA.  SQL skills and knowledge of other programming languages would be advantageous.

Campaigns, Communications and Education Development Role

We are seeking a person with skill, experience and enthusiasm across the communications, campaigning and worker education fields. The initial appointment will be for a period of 12 months.

This role has been created to meet a range of current union needs including:
• Working on content and layout of the NDU Express
• Developing content and resources for a range of delegate and member education initiatives
• Producing a range of publicity material including in printed and electronic form to support union campaigns
• Working within a variety of campaign teams to provide media, publicity, education and other campaign support
• Assisting the National Secretary in undertaking priority union projects

Our ideal candidate will:
• Have campaign and communication experience
• Desktop publishing/graphic design skills
• Be comfortable within a range of teams and also self-motivated and able to work independently
• Networks in the union movement and the community
• Live in or move to Auckland or Wellington

Organiser / Recruiter / Trainee Organiser
Full-time Fixed Term Position based in Christchurch

The National Distribution Union (NDU) has one full–time vacancy for either an Organiser,  Trainee Organiser or Recruiter working out of our Christchurch branch office.

The position is fixed term for 12 months commencing late January 2009 but depending on membership growth during this period may lead to a more permanent position.

The successful applicant will be a good one-to-one and group communicator and have a strong commitment to giving workers the opportunity to be part of a union.  Experience as a union delegate, or union organiser is desirable.
