    The CTU says that recent changes announced by Nick Smith aren’t about increasing choice, they’re about selling off the work account. ACC is proven to have cheaper administration costs, lower levies?

    There has been an active campaign by the Government to undermine public confidence in ACC. This has included scaremongering about the financial security of ACC and outrageous attacks on Ross Wilson, now removed as Chair of the ACC Board.

  • Government’s zeal to privatise undermines ACC

    In announcing its ‘in-principle’ decision to allow employers to choose between ACC and private insurers the Government is ignoring the evidence, said the CTU today.

    CTU President Helen Kelly said: “There are many reasons to oppose this privatisation of our wonderful scheme.

    A Canadian experience rating scheme for accident compensation similar to the Government’s plans for ACC published today in the consultation paper, was proven to encourage the concealment and the playing down of accidents including thousands of amputations, fractures, dislocations and bad burns, revealed the CTU today.

  • New title for ACC Act more honest

    The CTU expressed support for the Government’s move today to change the title of the Injury Prevention, Rehabilitation and Compensation Act to the Accident Compensation Act.

    “The change of name for the Act is a more honest reflection of what will be left of the ACC scheme once the Government is finished with it,” CTU President Helen Kelly said today.
