    CTU Secretary, Peter Conway today said that the government has a golden opportunity in the next few weeks to make New Zealand a fairer place, to help low income families cope with increases in the cost of living and to stimulate the economy, by increasing the minimum wage to $15 an hour when it announces its decision on the annual minimum wage review.

    Despite Port employers acknowledging in Mediation today that a proposal tabled by the Maritime union went “a considerable way to meeting its labour allocation issues and was big in a financial sense to the Port” the Port employers rejected the opportunity to settle this dispute unless the workers concede complete managerial discretion to the employer over the manner in which they are employed.<

    The CTU says that the Productivity Commission's International Freight Transport Draft Report is seriously flawed as well as obviously biased.

    Peter Conway, CTU Secretary, says “we had hoped that the Productivity Commission would not go down the same track as the 2025 Task Force but it looks like that was a forlorn hope.”

    The CTU is reminding workers of their rights during the holiday season.

    Peter Conway, CTU Secretary, said that it is a busy period for some businesses, especially in the hospitality and tourism sectors.

    “Many people will be working and others will be trying to sort out what their holiday entitlements are.”
