Finsec says Bill will Strengthen Collective Bargaining
"Were pleased to see the consistent, if modest, progress being made by this Labour Government in developing an employment law that attempts to work for employers, workers and the economy," said Andrew Casidy, General Secretary of the bank workers union, Finsec. "The proposed amendments should help to bring us closer to the constructive industrial relations that most other countries enjoy.
"We are particularly happy to see provisions that would penalise the deliberate undermining and avoidance of collective bargaining.
"These are underpinned by an important principle that the process of collective bargaining should result in a collective agreement unless there is a genuine reason for it not to.
"We also welcome proposals to give access to Employment Relations Education leave to all union members and not just to those on collective agreements," Andrew Casidy said.
