Nats Back With More Scare Tactics

"Grossly exaggerated claims of the cost of modest increases to workers' holiday entitlements continue the campaign of scare tactics by National Party," said Ross Wilson today.

"Business New Zealand was closely involved in the development of the Holidays Bill," he said.

"And successful business knows that some restoration of the entitlements that workers enjoyed before they were slashed by the National government policies of the 1990s is fair."

Ross Wilson said New Zealand workers still remembered Max Bradford's campaign to steal their holidays.

"Roger Sowry seems to be planning to do the same by stating his intention to gut the Holidays Bill in the select committee," he said.

Ross Wilson said the CTU would continue to fight to ensure that the small increases to workers' entitlements which were achieved in the development of the new bill and, which would benefit both employers and workers, became law.

"Roger Sowry is obviously somewhat sour that the Minister of Labour has achieved a new Holidays Bill, something that eluded the National government for the whole of the 1990s," he said.

"In addition the CTU will be pushing for four weeks annual leave on the basis that this will be a substantial contribution to productivity and work/life balance."
