Workplace Learning Good for Workers - Good for the Economy

The Council of Trade Unions says the launch of the skill new zealand campaign to encourage workplace learning is good news for workers, and will help to build a strong economy.

At Format Print in Petone today, Associate Education Minister Steve Maharey formally announced a partnership between the Government, Business New Zealand and the CTU to promote training and education for working people. Speaking at the launch, CTU secretary Carol Beaumont said there were significant benefits for workers, employers and the economy in higher levels of skill development. "But we need workers to be aware of the opportunities for training, and to remove any barriers that stop them taking advantage of these opportunities," she said. "That's what skill new zealand is all about." Workplaces needed to sustain ongoing training, which could involve a range of organisations such as polytechnics and Industry Training Organisations. The CTU supported a high wage, high skill, quality economy, said Carol Beaumont. "We see this initiative as an investment in building an economy that can deliver positive outcomes for workers."
