It's your right to time off work to vote

"Tell your workmates that workers have a legal right to time off work to vote after 3pm on Election Day, if they haven't already done so," CTU president, Ross Wilson told a meeting of union delegates in Whangarei today. "It's vitally important that we all vote because National plans to scrap the Employment Relations Act, cut time and a half on public holidays, reduce sick pay for thousands of workers, allow employers to offer only three weeks annual leave rather than four, strip the 15,000 health and safety delegates of their vital role and privatise ACC," he said.

"Their blatantly unfair tax cuts will give those on $100,000 almost $100 a week and those on $30,000 less than $10 a week. This is in stark contrast with Labour's affordable and generous, but targeted, tax relief to families."

"The country cannot afford National's tax cuts, which they will fund by cutting the jobs of nurses, teachers, social workers and other vital state service workers and by borrowing and driving up the cost of interest rates and, thereby, mortgages."
