National's secret ACC deal bad news for workers
A secret Insurance Council memo confirms that the objective of National Party policy is to benefit Australian private insurance companies regardless of the effect on workers, said Council of Trade Unions president Ross Wilson today."There is no more powerful or more voracious business than insurance. And their propensity for corruption is well-known. We only have to look at the scandalous collapse of HIH in Australia. HIH was one of the main actors in National's last sell-off of the ACC scheme to private insurers."
"The question needs to be asked: how much are private insurance companies paying into National's campaign coffers this time?"
"The CTU recommends that New Zealanders stick with Labour's policy to continue to improve ACC; already one of the best accident compensation schemes in the developed world."
