Public Servants Deserve a Better Deal

The PSA campaign for better pay and conditions across the public sector recognises the huge contribution public servants make to society and to the economy, Council of Trade Unions president Ross Wilson said today. The Public Service Association is seeking support from members to pursue a range of improvements in collective employment agreement talks which are due to start soon.

The CTU backed the PSA campaign, Ross Wilson said.

"Decent pay and conditions will attract and retain quality staff ? which in turn means a quality public service for us all," he said.

While the union was aiming for a fair pay rise through collective bargaining, its strategy also focussed on other conditions such as heath and safety, career development and better holidays.

"The PSA is also fighting for the right of many in the public sector to be covered by a collective agreement, as collective bargaining through unions is the best way for workers to win improvements in pay and conditions," Ross Wilson said.
