Working Families Not the Winners With Nationals Tax Cuts

"Those on high salaries would be the winners of National's tax cuts while the rest of New Zealand would face cuts to services like health and education to pay for it," said Council of President Ross Wilson today.Ross Wilson said it was simply unfair that a $15 an hour worker would get $11.50 a week extra by 2007 while those earning $100,000 would get over $90 a week.

"Not only do the cuts favour higher earners, despite the billions National proposes to spend, they are not targeted for those who need them most," he said.

Ross Wilson said the massive cost of the across the board cuts meant the services that all New Zealanders depend on would also be cut."

"This package is worth thousands of nurses, teachers, doctors and police," he said.

"But the cuts won't stop there," he said. "While National is offering workers tax cuts with one hand, with the other hand National will take away from ordinary working families by chopping holidays and pay for working public holidays and bringing back an Employment Contracts Act Law to reduce real wages."
