Public To Have Say On Youth Rates Bill
The Council of Trade Unions is pleased that Parliament will have the opportunity to debate Sue Bradfords Private Members Bill ending youth minimum rates of pay for 16 and 17 year olds, following the decision today by the Labour caucus to send it to select committee. "The CTU supports fair pay for a fair days work, and unions have been campaigning to end this form of discrimination against young workers," said Ross Wilson, CTU President. "We are pleased with the growing level of support to get Sue Bradfords bill to select committee, to allow the debate on youth rates to take place."
The Minimum Wage (Abolition of Age Discrimination) Amendment Bill is due to have its first debate in Parliament later this month. United Future, Labour and the Maori party have now signalled their support to the Greens to send the bill through to select committee.
