Shipping Industry Report Welcomed By Unions

The New Zealand Shipping Federation today released their report ‘Roadways to Waterways’ as the start of a strategy to integrate coastal shipping.

"The CTU supports an economic development approach that is inclusive and gets the key players around the table," CTU secretary Carol Beaumont said.

"Workers have knowledge and experience that is extremely valuable to the sector, and a working party, a core recommendation of the report, is an opportunity for workers, through their unions, to fully contribute to the shipping industry’s growth."

"New Zealand crewed vessels are an environment friendly transport mode, and an efficient carrier of goods."

"The CTU supports investment in key infrastructure. Coastal shipping has been overlooked in terms of national transport planning and we welcome the attention that this report will provide it," said Carol Beaumont.
