CTU Supports Development Focus on Regions
“The CTU is a strong supporter of a government role in regional and industry development,“ CTU secretary Carol Beaumont said, in response to the launch of the government’s regional development policy today.
“We need strong industries in regions to build a high wage, high skill, high value economy.”
“Unions are a partner in industry and regional development and have been strongly involved in the Forest Industry Development Agenda, Food and Beverage Taskforce and Manufacturing+. We have also had close involvement with a number of regions over their regional development strategies.”
“The consolidation into 14 regions makes sense”, Beaumont said. “The CTU believes that regional initiatives need to benefit the national economy, and this move will assist that.”
