CTU resolution in support of telecoms engineers at EDI Downer and Transfield, 20 August 2009

The NZ Council of Trade Unions Te Kauae Kaimai:

1. Condems the action of Telecom in enforcing a business model on contractors which destroys the livelihoods of workers.

2. Resolves to support in all practical ways affected workers at EDI Downers and Transfield.

3. Will support pickets in Auckland and Wellington next week and ongoing campaign activity.

4. Will invite workers from these firms to job meetings and Union conferences.

5. Calls on affiliated union members to provide financial support through:

a. Union donations;
b. Appeals to members;
c. Street Collections;
d. Adopting a family;
e. Consider a levy if called on by CTU Officers.

6. Calls on Telecom to reverse their decision on this dependant contractor model and advise firms of this.
Calls on the Government to halt any further negotiations with Telecom or subsidiary or associated companies on broadband rollout and requires Telecom to desist from this dependant contractor model
