There's No Economic Plan

Printer-friendly version

Unemployment is still high, the economy is fragile. The government says there will be 170,000 jobs created in four years but doesn’t know where they will come from apart from rebuilding Christchurch and fixing leaky homes.

  • We still need government support for the economy but it is taking it away. It failed to hit the recession on the head like the Australian government did.
  • We need a plan for the Christchurch reconstruction that looks after people who have lost homes and jobs, and uses it to build skills and good jobs, as well as buildings and infrastructure.
  • We need a plan to build a high wage, high skill, high value economy. It won’t just happen. Cutting government services and expenditure aren’t a plan for the future.
  • It talks about the need for people to save but cuts Kiwisaver incentives.
  • It talks about the need for more exports but won’t do anything about the exchange rate or help to exporters.
  • It talks about raising incomes but cuts Working for Families, makes tax cuts that favour high incomes and attacks fairness at work.
