UnionAID is a registered charity established by the New Zealand Council of Trade Unions in 2009 to support international development projects and human rights in the Asia-Pacific region.
UnionAID partners with trade unions and small-scale worker-led organisations in Asia and the Pacific. Through international solidarity and collaborative projects, UnionAID supports partners to build their capacity, advocate for labour rights, secure decent work and fair pay, ensure safe working conditions, promote equality, and engage in democratic processes.
The Opportunity
We’re seeking an experienced Executive Officer to lead our team of staff and volunteers in carrying out UnionAID’s international development and fundraising work. Reporting to the Board of Trustees, you’ll ensure UnionAID operates effectively and professionally whilst maintaining high standards of governance, financial management, and stakeholder engagement.
This is a 12-month fixed-term position as UnionAID renews its contract with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade for our Young Leaders Programmes. The future structure of the organisation will depend on the outcome of these negotiations.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership and report to the Board of Trustees
- Lead and support the Director Young Leaders Programmes, staff, and volunteers
- Oversee financial management and budgeting
- Work with the Communications and Operations Manager on fundraising campaigns
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders including NZ unions, NZCTU, CID, and overseas partners
- Support international partners in developing strong project proposals
- Ensure organisational compliance with all legal requirements
About You
You’ll bring:
- Experience managing staff and providing leadership to both paid staff and volunteers
- Experience managing an organisation, preferably within the union movement
- Practical administration experience and financial reporting oversight
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organising skills
- An innovative approach to fundraising
- Proven ability to manage a diverse workload and competing demands
- Inclusive leadership that supports Te Tiriti-aligned practice
- High level of cultural competence
A tertiary qualification is desirable.
