The Council of Trade Unions Secretary Sam Huggard is calling on Auckland Transport, part of Auckland Council to intervene, and “remove the suspensions which are preventing the people who keep Auckland’s trains safe, from doing their work.”
“CAF, the company Auckland Transport have contracted to provide maintenance and repair work on Aucklander’s trains, needs to listen to their employees rather than deploy this extremely aggressive tactic which is clearly aimed at starving these working people into submission.”
“This is the second time in a week where an employer has suspended employees once they have decided to take industrial action. This is what happened with Access Community Health as well. Employers who treat their employees this way are deploying what can only be described as bullying tactics.”
“All Kiwis have the right to come together and raise their collective voice about issues in their workplace. Good employers listen to their employees. Bad employers act to silence their employees. We challenge all employers to do the right thing, the just thing, and listen,” Huggard said.
