The Association of Salaried Medical Specialists/Toi Mata Hauora (ASMS) is the union for salaried senior doctors and dentists throughout New Zealand. Most of our members are employed by Te Whatu Ora as medical or dental specialists.
Due to a retirement, we are seeking an industrial officer to join our industrial team, based in Wellington or Christchurch.
You will need excellent judgement, a proven track record, the ability to gather information quickly and offer sensible advice. You will need to be hard-working, well-organised and enjoy working with people. This role requires someone who develops solid working relationships with colleagues and who is also comfortable working independently. It’s a balancing act!
You will also need the ability to build relationships with senior doctors and dentists, be familiar with or ready to learn about issues in the health sector, and demonstrate a commitment to the wider union movement. Regular travel is required.

Ideally you will have some experience working within the trade union movement, a good knowledge of New Zealand’s employment law, employment and industrial relations relationships, and a tertiary qualification. However, experienced candidates who do not meet all these criteria should still apply.
