Te Hautū Kahurangi |The Tertiary Education Union (TEU) is looking for a new Te Pou Ahurei | National Secretary.
TEU is a democratic, organising union working across all parts of the tertiary education sector in Aotearoa. We are looking for a person to fill this exciting and challenging role and to lead our union.
The role of the National Secretary is to actively promote the values and aspirations of the TEU’s members through the effective leadership of the Union.
The role has a strong focus on strategic planning and effective delivery to build collective power, effective use of resources, and consistent and transparent leadership and management.
TEU embraces Te Tiriti o Waitangi through the application of the whāinga of the union which are set out in the TEU constitution. The whāinga are instrumental to the work of the National Secretary.
Key responsibilities:
Provide strong leadership uniting members and staff. This includes developing and implementing a clear strategy to achieve the Union’s mātāpono | purposes; and, ensuring key strategies and workplans that effectively advance the purpose of the Union.
Ensure effective development, growth, financial stability, and management of the Union.
Build strong and effective relationships and advocacy alongside the union’s elected leaders. This includes clear communication which maximises opportunities for advocacy, membership growth, build the Union’s reputation; and establishes and maintains strong trusted relationships with institutional leaders,
government, iwi and hapū, and community leaders.
The successful applicant will have considerable experience in the strategic leadership of the union movement or cognate organisations; have demonstrated competence in managing finances and risk; have management experience; and, ideally, knowledge and competence in te reo Māori me ngā tikanga. The position reports to Nga Tumu Whakarae | The National Presidents.
