TEU Te Hautū Kahurangi | Union Organiser – fixed term | Palmerston North

Closing date: Tuesday 26 August 2025

The Tertiary Education Union (TEU) has a vacancy for a fixed term full-time organiser based in our Palmerston North office.

This is a busy and important role at the heart of our union so we are looking for someone who can think on their feet, gather and analyse information, demonstrate good judgement, show empathy with the needs of TEU members and the aims of the union movement, be collegial and take initiative.

We are seeking an organiser with a combination of organising, recruiting, negotiating, communication, campaigning and administrative skills. An essential requirement is the capacity to work effectively under pressure.

The person appointed will be responsible for representing members of the union in universities, polytechnics and wānanga from the Palmerston North office, and will include regular travel.

This is a fixed term position employed between the appointment date and 31 January 2027. The reason for the fixed term is to fill a staff members’ position during a period of planned leave. We are an education union committed to employment equity and Te Tiriti o Waitangi and a similar commitment will be expected from the appointee.

Ideally you will have a tertiary qualification, experience in the employment   relations field and knowledge of and competence in te reo Māori me ngā tikanga. However, experienced candidates who don’t meet all these criteria should still apply.

Further information and a job description are available from the Tertiary Education Union, P.O. Box 11-767 Wellington, amanda.hickman@teu.ac.nz, or 0800 278 348.

Applications, including the names of two referees, should reach the above address by 5.00pm Tuesday 26 August 2025.
