Tōpūtanga Tapuhi Kaitiaki o Aotearoa (NZNO) | Governance Advisor | Wellington

The New Zealand Nurses Organisation Tōpūtanga Tapuhi Kaitiaki o Aotearoa (NZNO) is the lead professional union for nurses and other healthcare workers. We represent more than 60,000 nurses, midwives, students, kaimahi hauora and health workers of which 4,500 are Māori members in Aotearoa New Zealand. We represent the interests of nurses and healthcare workers on professional and employment related matters. We are affiliated to the International Council of Nurses (ICN) and the New Zealand Council of Trade Unions (NZCTU). NZNO embraces Te Tiriti o Waitangi and works to improve the health status of all people of Aotearoa/New Zealand through participation in health and social policy development.

NZNO is looking for a new Governance Officer to drive governance processes and legislative compliance requirements for the organisation.

We are looking for someone with strong governance and legislative requirements knowledge, secretariat skills and experience, who has demonstrated success in planning, delivery and logistics.

This role is expected to be the subject matter expert and ‘go to’ person in all governance and compliance matters and will need to build sound and productive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.

This position will suit someone who is energised by being able to establish the necessary systems and processes to ensure NZNO’s Governance and compliance practices are modern and fit for purpose, and who enjoys working with people who are at the heart of the strategic direction of the organisation.

The successful candidate also will have the following skills and attributes –

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • The ability to give effect to Tiriti o Waitangi in the role and in work interactions
  • Well-developed influencing skills
  • Strong strategic planning skills
  • The ability to maintain strict confidently
  • Strong knowledge of compliance requirements on unions and / or not for profit organisations
  • Support for the values of unionism
  • Literacy in relevant software packages including the Microsoft Office suite, membership databases and digital governance tools
  • Confidence in all aspects of event coordination held either physically or virtually
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively under time and other pressure
  • Experience in project and budget management

This full time position is part of the team of the Office of the Chief Executive.
