More than 36,000 nurses, midwives and health care assistants will walk off the job again on Thursday, demanding better pay and increased staffing. NZEI will consider whether to ballot members on industrial action following two-weeks of stop-work meetings for primary teachers and principals. Thousands of senior hospital doctors will know by early next week whether they will walk off the job for 48 hours after a breakdown in pay talks. Health NZ has apologised to the nurse’s union, after the Ombudsman found its refusal to release information about staffing shortages was unreasonable.
