Te Hautū Kahurangi | Tertiary Education Union (TEU) is the union for people who work in tertiary education across Aotearoa. We’re a strong, democratic, member-led organisation, and we’re looking for someone to look after the work our democracy depends on.
About the role
Keep TEU’s democracy running: elections, ballots, collective agreement records and industrial data for Aotearoa’s tertiary education union. As our Industrial and Member Support Officer, you’ll coordinate TEU’s elections, ballots and member governance, and run the industrial administration behind our bargaining. You’ll:
- Run union elections, industrial ballots and member surveys so they’re well managed, well documented and trusted by members
- Support our member-led bodies (the Industrial and Professional Committee, the National Women’s Council and Council) with meeting schedules, agendas, papers, minutes and action follow-up, and look after our BoardPro portal
- Keep accurate records of collective agreements and terms of settlement, track expiry dates and bargaining status, and build a database of best-practice clauses to support bargaining across the sector
- Gather and prepare industrial data, including our annual density reporting, with our Policy and Research Adviser and Industrial Officers
- Provide executive assistant support to the Presidents and National Secretary.
You’ll report to the Administration Team Leader and work closely with the administration and industrial teams.
Key points
- Run the elections and ballots at the heart of our union’s democracy
- Build the industrial data that shapes bargaining across the sector
- Wellington-based role in a values-driven, supportive union.
About you
- Highly organised, with a strong eye for detail and accuracy
- Experienced in administration, ideally supporting governance, elections or member organisations
- Comfortable with data: spreadsheets, databases and pulling information together into clear reports
- Discreet, reliable and good at juggling priorities for several people at once
- A clear writer, and a calm, helpful point of contact for members and colleagues
- Committed to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and to the values of the union movement.
Experience with BoardPro, collective agreements or union elections would be a bonus, but we don’t expect you to have it all.
