The President of the Council of Trade Unions is reminding employers that haven’t already started collaborating with staff and unions that they must act now.

The Council of Trade Unions has been impressed with how quickly and decisively the Government has acted to ensure Air New Zealand can stay in operation. “This quick action provides Air New Zealand staff with some certainty in these times of unprecedented uncertainty,” CTU President Richard Wagstaff said.

The Council of Trade Unions is welcoming today’s significant package as a first stage to support New Zealand working people and our economy as a result of COVID-19. “This package provides an immediate boost to get through these challenging times,” CTU President Richard Wagstaff said.

The Council of Trade Unions is monitoring the emerging situation with COVID-19 and the impact on working people. “We are working closely with working people, their unions, the Government, Ministry officials and business groups to try and ensure that the COVID-19 virus is contained and that people are supported appropriately,” CTU Policy Director and Economist Andrea Black said.
