The NZCTU welcomes the re-development of MFAT’s Trade and Labour Framework. A new Framework can help embed strong labour standards and rights in New Zealand’s Free Trade Agreement negotiations and ensure that trade agreements contribute to the development of a high-wage, high-skill economy in which good work is available to all.
It is increasingly recognised in multilateral fora that fair and just labour rights and standards and the promotion of decent work are essential components of modern trade agreements. This submission outlines the NZCTU’s recommendations for a gold-standard Trade and Labour Framework for Aotearoa New Zealand.
