New Zealand Nurses Organisation (NZNO) is the lead professional nursing organisation and union for nurses. NZNO represents more than 63,000 nurses, midwives, students, kaimahi hauora and health workers of which 3,600 are Māori members in Aotearoa/New Zealand. We represent the interests of nurses on professional and employment related matters. NZNO is a progressive organisation which works to improve the health status of all people of Aotearoa/New Zealand through participation in health and social policy development.
NZNO is the voice of nursing based on our strong professional voice and commitment to the nursing profession. NZNO now seeks applications for a Professional Nursing Adviser (1.0 FTE – 40 hours per week) to be based in Wellington. This role is responsible for providing professional advocacy and support to NZNO members.
The successful candidate will:
• Be a registered nurse with a minimum of five years’ experience, preferably in in a designated senior nursing role. You will have a current New Zealand Nursing Council Annual Practicing certificate.
• Have or be working towards a Masters Degree in Nursing or a relevant field.
•Acknowledge the significance of Te Tiriti o Waitangi for NZNO as a bi-cultural organisation and be informed on its relevance on equity and the health of New Zealanders.
•Have well developed communication skills (written and verbal), and have the ability to build rapport and problem-solve.
•Have flexibility around the hours of work as some travel will be required.
•Have good IT skills.
•Work well as part of a team working individually and collectively to advance Maranga Mai! – our strategic direction.
•Provide professional nursing leadership and practice advice to support safe professional practice and improve patient care.
•Be a member of the team of Professional Nursing Advisors located around the country, working alongside other NZNO staff in support of members to provide advocacy.
•Provide support and strategic advice to NZNO members, staff, and other organisations.
•Develop and maintain important nurse leadership, health sector and organisational relationships that are of mutual benefit.
•Providing professional education for members.
•Support the work of the Colleges and Sections and C&S leadership.
