Te Hautū Kahurangi | Tertiary Education Union (TEU) is a strong, democratic union representing staff across Aotearoa’s tertiary education sector. About the role
We’re looking for an Education Lead to grow the TEU’s industrial and professional power through high-quality education for delegates, members and staff. Reporting to the Campaigns and Political Strategy Lead, you’ll connect education directly to our organising, bargaining and campaigning strategy.
You will:
•Lead and grow our delegate education programme. Keep our suite of delegate courses of the highest quality, develop new courses, and take them through the EREL approval process together with other unions.
•Create and deliver short courses for members. Cover rights at work, health and safety, knowing your collective and other priority topics, and train organisers and others to deliver them so we can educate members at scale.
•Coordinate quality education for staff. Identify learning needs, source or develop training, support new-staff induction and share resources with educators in other unions.
•Empower member educators. Many of our members are educators, so you’ll build a network that brings their knowledge and experience into the union’s education programme.
•Keep content current with legislation, the TEU Constitution and developments across the tertiary sector.
About you
- Experience designing and delivering adult education.
- Knowledge of employment relations in Aotearoa, including EREL, or a willingness to learn it quickly.
- A confident, engaging facilitator who can also coach and upskill others to teach.
- A commitment to union values, collective action and Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
- Strong organisational skills and good record-keeping habits.
- Collaborative and focused on solutions, with the ability to build strong relationships inside and outside the union.

What we offer
The role starts mid-January 2027
The salary range for this role is $96,000–$126,000, depending on skills and experience
26 days annual leave
$500 annual wellbeing allowance
